Meet Bjørn, CEO and Founder
Bjørn founded Photoncycle to rethink how residential energy systems are designed from the ground up. With a strong focus on simplicity, scalability, and real-world performance, he leads the company’s technology and long-term vision as Photoncycle moves from pilot systems toward market deployment.
What are your best qualities as an entrepreneur?
I have strong determination, high energy, and a natural optimism. Most importantly, I’m good at turning ideas into execution. Here, I focus on removing obstacles quickly and making decisions even when information is incomplete.
What is the most interesting thing about Photoncycle?
We rethink energy systems from the ground up by questioning the entire model. Instead of gradually improving legacy, centralized solutions, we ask what an energy system should look like if it were designed from scratch today. That’s how we create simpler, more efficient systems built for a fossil-free future.
What do you value most in your job and colleagues?
We have a strong, collegial workplace where people enjoy working together and support each other. I deliberately recruit people who are not only highly competent but also genuinely nice people. I’m personally involved in hiring to understand the whole person, because building something ambitious requires both trust and excellence.
Which trends in the energy industry do you believe in the most?
The most important trend is the urgent need for scalable solutions that can de-carbonise homes quickly -- not in 20 years. What gives me confidence is that this need is recognised not only by customers, but also by some of the most experienced and successful venture investors in Europe. Raising significant capital in a challenging market is a strong signal that we’re addressing a real and timely problem.
The startup market seems to have hit a bit of a rocky road, how is Photoncycle affected by the current market situation?
The market has been challenging, but the energy transition is not optional, but inevitable. While higher interest rates slowed parts of the market, we’re seeing momentum return as conditions normalize. At the same time, we continue to see strong interest in Photoncycle, driven by real demand from homeowners who must replace fossil-based heating in the coming years.
